What are three adjectives that describe the writing you have done so far?
Sexy. Diverse. Character Driven.
What are three of your guilty pleasures?
People watching, watching CSI and eating bbq potato chips.
I know that your works are published electronically. Can you talk to us about the process in which you work with your e-publishers (contracts, deadlines, etc.)?
I usually submit a project via email with a short blurb, world length and genre description. The response time depends on the publishing house. Once the project is accepted, you are notified and an editor assignment is usually done shortly after. The publishing date depends on the production schedule. Deadlines are usually established once the editor assignment is placed. Contracts vary; however, the houses I publish with are one to two years, royalties are either paid monthly or quarterly at 35% or higher.
As an e-writer, you and your works really do live in Cyberspace. How do you use the internet in order to market and promote your work?
MySpace and writing communities are essential to getting the word out about my books. I utilize them to the fullest as well as networking w/ other authors.
How are you looking to use it in the future?
I have several contests coming up and surprise projects.
What is the hottest work you have out to date, and what makes it so sexy?
I would have to say, Flirting With Danger. Every character got it on in the book except one. LOL. The attraction between the main characters, the angst they experienced on the path to love all intensified the sensual nature of the story.
Do you have a standard process to your writing?
I’ve learned over the course of the last year that it doesn’t hurt to switch up writing routines. I’ve gone from a fast writer to a snippet writer and back again. LOL. Nothing is written in stone when it comes to my writing practice.
Are you an outliner or a jump-right-in writer?
I’m in ‘in-betweener’ depending on a project and the length determines if I need to be more in depth with the plot development. I typically don’t like outlining, but I’m finding it necessary for my longer projects.
Why do you think you’re so into writing steamy, sexy stories?
I’ve always written sexy stories. I love the involvement between characters and to see how they dare deal with the object of their lusts. It keeps things interesting.
Do you think you’ll ever tap into other genres? If so, which one(s)?
I think I will. I like diversity. Chick-lit would be fun. It’s like having your say and slipping into a character.
Who are some of your favorite music artists to listen to when in the writing mood and why?
Jill Scott, Floetry, Leela James, Faith Evans, Corinne Bailey Rae and Chrisette Michele. I call them “my girls” LOL. They all have songs that speak universally and about life, love, ups and downs and help me to delve into emotional intense scenes.
What is your favorite thing about e-publishing? What’s the thing you wish would be better?
I love the freedom I get from writing ebooks. I’ve never felt pressured to write one specific thing. I don’t feel that there is anything that can be better as ebooks have expanded in all markets.
If you could pick your three favorite movies that suggest the steamy, sexy goodness in which your stories exude, what would those movies be?
Thomas Crown Affair, Love Jones, and anything with Mr. Denzel Washington.
How do you spend your time when you’re not writing?
Spending time with my son, watching movies, dancing, and singing.
What are three adjectives that describe YOU?
Eccentric. Creative. Independent.
Dream-on: You’ve just been told that you can have one of your stories made into a movie. Which story do you choose, why, and who would play the romantic leads?
Pulse, because I love romantic suspense storylines. Kerrie Washington would play Cassidy and Boris Kudjoe as Gabriel Sebastien.
What projects are you currently working on?
Currently, I am working Black Silk, an African American Vampire romance. The Panty Affair, and several other novellas and a single-title (tentatively) Captured.
Gwyneth Bolton
