1) NUBIAN BELLES-LETTRES

>>Pam Ridley – excerpt from her second novel, Lies Too Long –
Laurel Novak’s made some poor choices when it comes to men, but
she’s only human. The question is, can she move beyond her
mistakes or will someone make her pay?

>>Ruth Warrington Lee – “Smoke Screen” – (short-short) – In this
piece, Shauna discovers during a smoke break that it’s a thin
line between insanity and the “real” world.

>>Ruth Warrington Lee – “It’s All On The Shield – Examining The
Black Greek Hazing Dilemma” – (article) – As a member of one of
the historically black Greek organizations, Lee is alarmed at the
reemergence of hazing in the news. Having endured this type of
treatment, she felt compelled to write an article about her
experience and the ramifications.

>>Emma Wisdom – “Malice of the Heart” – (short story) – When Miss
Isabelle Brooks, a local of Nickel Stop Station, Texas, is found
hanging in a tree outside of her home of an apparent suicide, the

the suicide angle.

3) DA CYBER CHRONICLES

In episode #8 of Everything’s Gonna Be Alright: It’s the day
after the huge blow up at the 4th of July bash. Defeated and
depressed, Clemson wanted to be left alone, but Tre wouldn’t
stand for that. Eventually, Clemson let down her walls and
admitted to Tre that she cared about him. No sooner than she
began to feel that maybe the two of them could be an item, Tre’s
best friend, the gorgeous Kat, showed up and automatically
threatened Clemson’s fragile psyche and feelings.

NOW, in episode #9: Clemson meets up with her best friend Randi
to tell her about the latest goings on. During their outing,
Clemson learns that she’s not the only one with problems of the
heart.

MUSINGS

The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language: Fourth
Edition. 2000

Musing.. …Deep in thought; contemplative. 1. Contemplation;
meditation. 2. A product of contemplation; a thought. an elegant
tapestry of quotations, musings, aphorisms, and…

Time to think and ponder
Letting thoughts run and flow
Unfettered streams of memories
That pulse, that shimmer that glow
These random musings speak
As they run slowly through my mind
They beg for life some reality
They weigh, they press they grind
There is no pattern, no sense of fit
The thoughts elusive and hard to see
They randomly move to and fro
And beg for life, call out to me.
So these diffused thoughts I record
I fill the page with words that rhyme
From subject one to infinity
Giving life, sending love, biding time.

6) THE WRITE LIFE

No one should know more about your main character than you do.
Sometimes, on days when the writing isn’t flowing, I like to talk
to my main character, learn about his or her pasts, what they
think about certain things. It’s what helps us make more
well-developed, complex characters–that insider information.
At The Write Life, check out the latest article, WHO’S YOUR
CHARACTER to learn a few things about one or two of MY main
characters and share some secrets about yours!

7) THE LIVING ROOM

In THE LIVING ROOM this issue, columnist Stacey Tolbert states,
“Don’t we do it all? We write. We mother. We partner. We school.
We teach. WE DO IT ALL, and we can. And we will continue to do
it all. Be a fly on the wall for a writers circle. Start your
own circle of writers, quilters, activists, or artivists!” She
illustrates these very things in her piece, “Feminist Chips and
Creative Writing Dip Food, Sex, Writing, and Friendship.”

8) MATTHEW’S MUSINGS

In his latest column, Matthew talks to the Authentic Black Man and
argues why it’s important to not lose sight of the culture’s
betterment and not detriment by way of becoming the “Decent Negro”.
