Hey Gang.

I know, I know. It’s been a while since I’ve written. I’ve been busy. With what, you ask? Reading creole literature. In the spring, I will be co-moderating two groups regarding creole literature, so I’ve read Ernest Gaines, Anne Rice, Lalita Tademy, among other works. I have learned so much from reading these works (and the essays I need to read), and I have grown as a person from having read these works. They have moved me and made me think about being black, about being “other” in a world that didn’t want that “other.” If you haven’t read Catherine Carmier (Gaines), The Feast of All Saints (Rice), or Cane River (Tademy), pick them up today and do so. I mean it.

School starts next week, and I’m saddened by it. Haven’t gotten a lot of writing done over the break, what with reading, writing an academic textbook, and other projects. I’m realizing, more and more, that writing is my gift, my passion, my reason for being, and not being able to do it is literally killing my spirit. Need to work in the ’07 to find ways in order to give my passion room to breathe and make a difference in my life.

I’ve written a little bit on my latest project, La Doña Rising; I hope to finished it by mid-February. Every time I get up into the story, I’m excited and happy, so I do plan to integrate more writing into my daily diet. It does this body good.

FOR ALL YOU WRITERS OUT THERE, leave a comment and let me know how your writing is coming along…if you’ve made any resolutions this year about your writing!!

PS->a new interview is coming next week! 🙂
